Young adults meet every Saturday at 16h00 at the church. All who are young at heart are welcomed.

Interview

I took some time out to find out more about the Youth and Young Adults Committee of 2009. These young people are vibrant, ambitious, God driven and God seeking young people. With the ministry to serve other’s more than serving them. They might have gotten off on the wrong foot but today they are more than friends, they are a family. They have one thing in common that has brought them together as one. And that is none other than the love of God. It is clear that these young people had the same vision. And that is what knitted them together.

1) In your own words, what would you say is the Young and the Young Adults? Or what is the purpose of having these meetings?

VUYO: Firstly we are a family in this church. And a family consists of parents and children. We discuss only issues relevant to the youth as the youth. What you will become depends on what you do now. This is where we bear fruit. Service of the young people and we need to play a role as the children in this family. It is also all about growth, maturing, equipping one another. Adapting to the stage we are in and how to grow in it and where we exercise our spiritual gifts.

SPEEDY: It is where we grow in grace. We are also a church in a smaller capacity. Gathering together to learn and be able to ask questions freely.

TENDAI: Ministry for young people and it is vital in this world we live in. Where we can tackle real life issues and speak about challenges we face as young people, through GOD helping us. We teach each other as Young people through these meetings.

ZANDI: youth is for young people from the age of 13-20. Then the young adults it is for people from the age of 20 up. It is more like a fundamental thing. Encourages and teaches the basics of salvation in deeper detail.

2) What is your duty as a committee toward the Youth and the Young Adults?

ZANDI: Very simple. We need to be vessels so God can feel us so as to feel others. Moses- God gave him power to go and seek GOD about this ministry. His purpose and theme and making sure that things go well. So is our duty as the committee.

VUYO: In the history of the Bible there always have been leaders and if there are no leaders, people do as they please. We give direction in the direction that God has placed. (Shepherds and Flocks) They are the overseers standing in the gap of the congregation of the young people of God and the conveyers between God and the youth.

3) Would you say that there was unity between the committee of 2009?

SPEEDY: There is more than unity. There were many clashes in the beginning but we took them to God. Now we are brother’, sister’s and friends. Communication is good and through communication we became a family.

ZANDI: We are the family on our own as a committee in a very magnificent way. Unity is an understatement. God created a bond that will last forever. It is unbreakable and will remain so. We were taught what real love is. There were characters that you wanted away from but we had to love one another.

TENDAI: Amazing, different characters but we complement one another like marriage. (What does he know?) There was a part of me that was missing and I found it in these guys.

VUYO: A committee is non existent without love. And what makes unity is love. Without love there is no unity. Unity is indescribable. We must have one spirit, one mind and one vision. Having individual strong relationships with God and we were all after God’s own heart. So we just blended into one family. The spirit of God that was in us and he chose the strongest under the yoke of GOD. “Where there is unity, God commands Blessings”

*Have you ever got to a point where you use you position to under mine others?

ZANDI: God humbles you and he chooses you. When you get big headed, the glory of God leaves you. So he can use anyone. All this humbles you.

VUYO: It’s not what you can do but what God can do. We are just vessels. As a leader you do not feel all the details. But you let God do the rest.

4) Were there any challenges that you faced this year, if there are. What are they?

ZANDI: Challenges are always there. If you serve God, you will be challenged more. There were challenges in preparations for the camp but the greatest challenge is who you are. It is no longer about you and you need to carry yourself differently also moving away from your comfort zone because it is no longer about you.

VUYO: There is God’s work then our lives. Priorities were a battle. Making time, but we soon tackled it. Challenges to your own interests and what Gods you to do. And the times of feeling like giving up. The older brother must serve the younger one. (Meeting together and at the same time think about your books.) The challenges build you and we are who we are because of them.

SPEEDY: putting meaning to the word. We have to put God first.

TENDAI: keeping up with your spiritual life as a leader, it contaminates everyone. Getting up at 3am to pray for the young people and being a testimony, behaviour and your character. Also keeping the standard and what people expect of you.

5) What would you say to the upcoming committee, any words of encouragement?

ZANDI: 2 Timothy. “We are soldiers.” They are soldiers on call and they must never go out of the camp without the full armour. Must be ready at all times and know that they are soldiers. But the rewards are great.

VUYO: Give your all. Must be willing to give God all your best and leave no stone unturned. Prioritise. God himself is a priority. Availability and follow everything the bible tells you. If you miss a step come back. Above all, must be full of love.

SPEEDY: Stand firm, no matter what happens. Have a strong relationship with God.

TENDAI: Be prayerful. Pray without seizing. Men ought to pray at all times. In prayer things happen. Must be vigilant and stay alert.

6) Being in the committee, were there any learnt lessons?

VUYO: I believe in growing. Once growth stops you start decaying. In all these years, he has taken me from one level of growth to another. Can see progress, been challenging but each year God does something new. I have also learnt that our lives are not our own. But God’s lives. This life is full of purpose and it is from God. Everything that you do you must know that you are fulfilling God’s purpose.

TENDAI: In terms of growing, people around me see the growth. Last year was something else but this year he has done exceedingly. He has taken me from one level to the other and from one glory to the other glory. I am not the same person I used to be. Last year it was God’s plan and purpose for me to be in the committee. I have grown by the grace of God. Do not work by experience but by the spirit of God that is always vital. Learnt that you cannot do anything without God or the Holy Spirit and I also learnt a lot about love, and now I am loving people more. Learnt that people can love you inspite of where you cone from. Confiding in people and being a good leader.

7) If you were to change anything, what would it be?

ZANDI: Change is always good if the change is good. Personally it would be to extend time of serving as a committee. The beginning and how things started.

TENDAI: No comment.

SPEEDY: Nothing, no comment.

VUYO: I wouldn’t change anything. Anything that happens happens for a reason. Everything that happened, we learnt from them. I thank God for the challenges, we have learnt a lot from them.

Additional words from the members

VUYO: As shepherds we have to have love for the flock. We need to pray before we do anything. Take responsibility for everything. Either the person from the youth and young adults has backslidden ornot. Our job this year would not have been easy without these people. These people responded to the vision, contributed and the youth made our job easier.

ZANDI: Being in the committee you are taught a lot about the character of Jesus. If they fall they fall in your hands. People should not only grow in numbers but also in spirit.

SPEEDY: Keep on looking for the lost sons.
