The making of a man of God”

Intro:- Relatively easy to make a man of God, much harder to become God’s Man

Genesis.1:16-27. Created = to make, representative likeness or figure

1. Adam possessed three characteristics of God.

A. Character Adam created or shaped to be like God‘s image/likeness.

New creation - made to be like God.

B. Competence Adam had the ability, Gen.2:19-20.

C. Chemistry Adam had God’s DNA - Vision, purposes Gen.1:28

n.b. Adam’s disobedience = failed in all three areas!

2. Hebrews.1:1-3, v3. Express image (NKJV) Exact representation (NIV)

Jesus possessed these three characteristics:- No failure in any area.

A. Character B. Competence C. Chemistry

3. How God begins to make a man of God. Process has 4 - Stages.

Matthew.4:19 & Mark.1:16-17. Jesus addressing Peter and Andrew, “I will make you

fishers of men” Make = sense of making constructively by a creative act.

Romans.8:28-29. Conformed = to be fashioned like. Image = Representative likeness.

N.B. It is the Lord who works the changes in a man or woman to bring the formation of

a man or woman of God.

i. “CALL“. 1.Cor.1:26-29. This is where process begins. Why does He call the

weak or foolish? The process of transformation is easier when the

intellect does not get in the way!

ii. “CHARACTER” Selection is based upon the character, personality of the

person. Honesty! Integrity! Commitment! Submissive to leadership!

iii. “COMPETENT” Proven ability - Hard worker able to complete a given task.

iv. “CHEMISTRY” Possess the same DNA, VISION and PURPOSE, TO DO THE

LORD’S WILL! Regardless of personal cost.

Illustrate. Moses - Became God’s Man.

i. “CALL” Ex.3. The burning bush

ii. “CHARACTER” Identified in Egypt and developed in desert. Where influence

of Egypt is removed

iii. “COMPETENCE” Developed and proved in desert looking after Father in law’s

Sheep - it is here humility is also developed.

iv. “CHEMISTRY” DNA of God - Num.12:6-8 Spoke face to face with God.
