Introduction:- Hebrews. 11:6 & 32-34.

Recap. Judges.6:24. Gideon’s response to The Lord’s presence is to build an altar -“Jehovah Shalom = God’s peace“.

Judges.6:25-30. Go and destroy the altar to Baal, on your father’s ground - probably used by all the villagers!

Spiritual truths to be learned from this:-

a. Baal must go before the enemy the Midianites can go!

b. God’s Altar cannot be built until Baal’s altar is totally removed and destroyed!

c. First place we have to start is our own home or backyard ! This is possibly the hardest of all to do.

Note:- Gideon is fearful - Faith is demonstrated by his obedience - 1.Samuel.15:22-23 “Obedience better than sacrifice”

The Lord honors Gideon’s obedience - he is protected.

Response of the Midianites and others, they immediately prepare to attack Israel in force - Jezreel valley in Judah!

1. Judges.6:34--35. More lessons from Gideon’s life. Now comes under control of the Holy Spirit’

v.34. Spirit of the Lord comes upon him - This follows his obedience to God’s word! ON NOT IN!

v.35. He gathers an army of 32.000 men to fight with him - Acts.2:41-42. Hebrews.10:25.

2. Judges.6:36-40. How not to find the will of God for your life! Never put out a fleece!

a. Luke.22:42. “Not my will but yours be done! Ephesians.5:17 “Therefore do not be foolish ---------”

b. Romans’12:1-2.

v.36-37. Gideon already knew the Lord’s will, see verses. 12, 14 & 16. Plus clear vision it was the Lord

The 32000 men was evidence of God’s power and authority working through him!

Problems when we set a fleece:- IT IS THE EVIDENCE OF DOUBT AND FEAR, NOT FAITH

MEANS WE ARE DICTATING TO GOD IMPOSING OUR WILL

NEVER SOLVES THE PROBLEM

v.38-39.Gideon puts the fleece out - reveals he is still uncertain and fearful. Needs additional assurance.

v.40. GOD is amazingly patient with Gideon. Process of becoming A MIGHTY MAN CAN BE VERY SLOW.

Took the Lord 40 years to train Moses, who still made excuses. Ex.3 & 4.
