Getting The Best Out Of Life
Intro:- Recap briefly on Pt’s 1 & 2 Emphasis – Hitting the road running.
John.10:10. a. The thief will take away, steal, kill destroy.
b. Jesus came to give life(new birth) and this new life more abundant, speaking of progression, growth, maturity, completeness fullness not maintenance.
1. John.2:1-11. The Marriage Feast at Cana. Can reveals Jesus ABILITY TO CHANGE CIRCUMSTANCES IN LIFE AND WORSHIP. BY BUILDING THE CHURCH!
Jesus first miracle – Restoration of JOY! Contrast between the old and New.
a. Describes a church steeped in tradition and human methods.
b. Jesus is an invited guest.
c. Mary His mother – Aware the wine has run out – TIME FOR DRAMATIC CHANGE! Suddenly states “They have no wine” The jars are empty!
n.b. Wine symbolic of JOY Psalm.104:15 Refers to three things:- Wine! Oil! and Bread! Church can be place of JOY or EMPTY AND DRY.
v.5. “Whatever He says to you do it” Obedience! v.6 . Stone water pots – 1.Peter.2:1-5. v4. Living stones. 6 = Man. v.7. Fill them to the brim. John.7:37-39. v.8. Taste and see! Ps.34:8a. v.9-11. New wine described as the best!
2. Luke.5:29-39. Contrast of the OLD and NEW. v.34-35. Jesus uses Marriage as illustration.
v.36-39. New Garments. Isaiah.61:10. New Wine. Acts.2:1-4, & 2:13. Jesus is teaching that New Life cannot be a mixture of the OLD and NEW, NO ONE CAN SERVE TWO MASTERS. Either the BELIEVER AND CHURCH ARE BEING LED AND CONTROLLED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, or we can allow human methods and interpretations to dominate us, and fool ourselves into thinking we are a Spirit led church or individuals.
3. Matthew.11:28-30. The answer:-
a. TAKE MY YOKE – Refers to the Holy Spirit.
b. LEARN FROM ME – Willing to do things His way.
c. Humility - submission – Opposite of Pride! Man made rules regulations etc
d. Rest for your souls = Trusting Jesus all the way.
e. His Yoke is surprisingly easy – IF WE ALLOW IT TO BE!
Conclusion. Things began to happen after the Disciples had submitted to His word. Acts.1:8 and were Baptized and Filled with the Holy Spirit.
